Before the test:
- Annual Compliance Fee must be paid before test date
- Warm the Engine to avoid sensor error by driving a minimum of 15-20 minutes.
- Verify NO Dashboard Lights - MIL: OFF or risk potential "FAIL" or be unable to test due to "Monitor Not Ready".
2013+ On-Board Diagnostic ("OBD") Emissions Test
- CARB-certified OBD device connects to data port to scan the engine's OBD data, checking for emissions related faults and verify the emission control system is working correctly.
2012 and older Non-OBD Test
- Requires a Smoke Opacity SAEJ 1667 and visual inspection.
Alternative fuel 2018
- Requires only a visual inspection.
*Emissions testing type is determined by the engine model year, fuel type and if equipped with the On-Board Diagnostics System (OBD).
After the Test
- CARB-credentialed inspector uploads your results directly into your CTC-VIS account.
- Your compliance status updates automatically.
If your vehicle receives a "FAIL", you are required to re-test within 45 days.
